The moon on the Margaret chain was never just a charm, it was a love note from those long nights when Arthur was little and sleep felt like a distant memory. It was the soft glow through the curtains at 3am, the quiet hum of the house, the hours spent rocking, feeding and whispering promises while the rest of the world slept. I used to look up at it and wonder how something so constant could witness so much change, how it could wax and wane and still return to itself whole again, and motherhood feels like that, love feels like that. This crescent carries the ache of tired bones, the warmth of his small body against mine and the quiet magic of being the only two people awake in the world.
This piece was made many years after that time, carved first from wax and brought to life in metal, a way of holding those memories in something lasting. The moon still makes me wonder about time and devotion and how love stretches you and softens you all at once, and the crescent moon will always be my favourite, not because it is full but because it is becoming, just like us.
